This
is an historic town of approximately 20,000 people located midway
between the university cities of Galway and Limerick and within
a 20 minute drive of Shannon
International Airport.
Founded by the Franciscan Friars in 1240 A.D. the town is full
of history and famous for it's narrow streets and old world charm.
Ennis is Ireland's Information Age Town arising from which 85%
of the population have on-line services. This Eircom project invested
19m in IT infrastructure in the town.
Ennis, which is highly regarded for it's clean environment and
friendly people, has won the National Tidy Towns Award for larger
towns on many occasions.
Ennis is the capital town of County Clare and as such provides
the usual services associated with such a designation. The County
Hospital is on the northern outskirts of the town. Garda Headquarters
are in the centre of the town and County Council offices and motor
tax facilities are on the eastern verges of the town.
Other sports amenities include the County GAA facilities at Cusack
Park, Banner GAA Club, Eire g GAA Club and of course the famous
Doora/Barefield Club is on the eastern side of town. There is a
very fine new swimming pool built adjacent to the Galway Road
- with similar facilities are the West County Hotel and Woodstock
Golf Club. The tennis and badminton club is in the town centre.
The town is very well serviced by schools. There are a number
of national schools and secondary education is provided for girls
in the town centre at Colaiste
Muire and boys at St.
Flannans College and CBS. All three have a very good reputation.
